Here at Bethel, we strive to be an active part of not just the Spartanburg Community, but also the Worldwide Community. This list provides information on many of the Outreach and Mission opportunities we offer at Bethel United Methodist Church.

A Way Home includes Spartanburg-area churches who provide temporary shelter for homeless families with children under the age of 18. A Way Home was formerly known as SPIHN and is operated by A Place to Call Home. Different churches across Spartanburg provide a nighttime shelter for these families. Bethel families partner with St. Paul United Methodist Church to provide meals for these families. Bethel supports St. Paul UMC three to four times a year for one week at a time. We serve dinner to usually three or four families one or two nights and we host the families overnight with two people from 6 PM to 7 AM. This is a great Sunday School Class or family activity. Bethel will assist with A Way Home during 3 weeks in 2026.

Rebuilding Together Spartanburg is a non-profit organization that rehabilitates the houses of low-income, elderly, disabled, and otherwise disadvantaged homeowners to provide for their continue safety and independence. The “Rebuilding Days” are one day projects scheduled as needed. We are assigned projects involving ramp building, plumbing, flooring, etc. This a chance to help our community and grow in Christ with other team members and Homeowners.

The Angel Tree Program through the Salvation Army provides an opportunity for individuals to provide joy at Christmas for children who would otherwise be left out. Each Christmas season, in November, a tree is placed outside the sanctuary with Angel Tags identifying specific needs for deserving children in the Spartanburg area. Members of Bethel’s family may select a tag from the tree, purchase the listed gifts, and place them under the tree for delivery to these Children.

The Spartanburg Soup Kitchen serves people in need of some of life’s most basic necessities. This ministry feeds lunch seven days a week to everyone who walks through the door, as well as providing mentoring, health counseling and other services. Bethel volunteers and helps serve the meals. Bethel is in charge of the lunch preparation, serving and cleanup the fourth Sunday of the months of January, March, May, July, September and November.

Bethel members work with Mobile Meals of Spartanburg to prepare and deliver hot meals to recipients who are disadvantaged, elderly or homebound all across Spartanburg County. There are opportunities for Bethel members to support Mobile Meals through meal preparation and meal delivery weekdays or through financial donations.

Kairos is a ministry that reaches out to the incarcerated particularly at Tyger River Correctional Facility in Enoree. Bethel members provide meals or cookies during the year and for holidays.

Sidewalk Hope is a ministry that reaches out to children in apartment and other communities to spread the Hope of the Gospel. Bethel provides space for Sidewalk Hope to store and organize its supplies for the children to receive snacks, gift bags and love.
MISSION TRIPS
Every so often, Bethel will send a team to an area who has just suffered a great tragedy and is need of relief. They will also often do trips where they work on Construction projects as well, similar to Rebuilding Together, often partnering with our BUMS student mission team.
